Aboriginal and Torres Strait Legal Services (North Queensland) is a partly Government Funded organisation that provides legal services and advice to indigenous Australians.
Many of their staff move between the offices in Thursday Island, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Mount Isa and other staff multi-task their roles between the offices. This meant that extension numbers were constantly changing and a high volume of their telecommunications expenditure was between the branches.
Due to growth within the company they were also looking at a WAN (wide are network) to be installed by Telstra to manage their data traffic.
Utilising the WAN we were able to install VoIP compatible telephone systems at each site allowing traveling staff members to simply “log-on” to a handset at any site – retaining their voicemail, extension number and handset configuration despite the location. This improved efficiency for the roaming staff members and also for the support members who needed to transfer calls to them and the management staff who needed to contact them.
We were also able to utilise the WAN to make calls between the offices without going through the Telstra Exchange and therefore eliminating call charges. This also allowed clients and suppliers to be transferred seamlessly throughout the offices as though all staff were an extension off the same telephone system, saving time and improving the external paradigm of the firm. |
